As soon as the warmth of spring hits, the bright orange drinks come out. Aperol Spritz is the perfect drink for spring and summer. Light and refreshing it tastes somewhat like an orange popsicle and is definitely a crowd pleaser for the warm weather.
The first time I tried an Aperol Spritz was in 2015 on my honeymoon. It was evening and we had just arrived in Venice, Italy. We threw our bags in our hotel room and went back out into the warm night to find a Venice bar. As we made our way through the square, we noticed many people sitting outdoors drinking a bright orange drink with ice. The bartender explained it was the Aperol that gave the drink its color. The light Italian Prosecco, splash of soda water and a little bit of ice rounded out the taste. Three of those and we were fans.
The following summer Aperol Spritz had made its way to London. An ocean of orange can now be seen as you pass by any outdoor patio or pub. The orange seems to last until the days grow cold again when it makes way for the cool weather drinks of winter. If you’ve never tried one, I’d highly recommend them.
