The Roaring 20’s of a New Generation

The new roaring 20's

Welcome to 2020, the new Roaring 20’s! As a proud member of Generation X, I’ve always believed that our generation, known for never wanting to grow up, isn’t defined by age. We’re the pioneers of today’s digital age, yet we remember life before it.

Our journey is far from over. A glance at my Facebook feed reaffirms this daily. Many of my peers are thriving, looking younger through self-care and embracing youthful activities. Friends from college, some even longer, constantly share their new adventures. Once hardcore partiers now embrace parenthood. Studious types send their kids off to college and embark on new chapters. They’re attending concerts, traveling globally, and embracing fitness like never before. Looking not just good “for their age,” but simply hot. This mid-40s flip, as I call it, is truly fascinating.

Consider this: barring unforeseen circumstances, we have many years ahead. Mentally sharp and still physically capable, we’re poised to achieve as much, if not more, in the second half of our lives.

Reflecting on Then and Now

When I started writing blog posts years ago, my aim was to share personal stories that entertained and resonated. As my involvement with Phoenix Road Creative grew, my focus shifted from reminiscing about the past to embracing the present. Transitioning into middle age was a revelation—I found humor in missing my youthful physique, like when my clothes mysteriously shrank in the dryer while my husband’s remained unscathed. Turning 40 brought new perspectives, prompting me to explore what it means to be the adult in the room, discovering myself as a mid-lifer along the way.

Engaging with a community of like-minded individuals on Instagram and in real life, I’ve realized this blog is more than my journey—it’s about Generation X navigating midlife together, sharing experiences that resonate and inspire.

PS: Millennials you’re up!

Just putting it out there – Millennials are entering their 40’s. As my favorite character on Sex and the City would say, “honey, welcome to my box.”

Sincerely,

Jennifer Pike
